See Day 1 City of Palms coverage and photosThe competition raises a notch Friday for Lincoln, which takes on defending champion and current national No. 1
Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.), which earlier in the day upended Milton (Ga.) 77-42 behind 31 points from
Ben Simmons.
Simmons made 14 of 18 shots and added 13 points in the decisive victory.
"That will be a totally different game," Lincoln coach Tiny Morton told the newspaper. "We've got to shoot the ball well, rebound and take care of the basketball."
Lincoln, which led by at least 12 throughout the second half, outrebounded Greenforest 36-31, getting a game-high nine from Rodriguez. Whitehead and Anthony Williams had six assists each.
The game was sloppy with a combined 41 turnovers, but the late hour might have contributed to that. Whitehead was especially effective from outside, making 6 of 10 attempts on 3-pointers.
