Video: Ohio State commit makes play of the year

New Mexico's No. 1 volleyball team this year moved up from No. 5 in 2015, according to the MaxPreps Computer Rankings. Centennial was 24-1 this fall and won the Class 6A state championship. The Hawks, who posted a 22-4 record last year, won 24 consecutive matches after losing their first outing to an out-of-state team.
St. Pius won Class 5A with a 21-2 record to place second in 2016. Last year St. Pius was 20-3 and ranked No. 4.
Sandia Prep truly is consistent, having placed third in the state each of the past two seasons. This fall it won Class 4A with a 23-1 record. Last fall it was 24-1 in the same No. 3 slot.
Piedra Vista placed No. 4 with a 19-5 record, one of the state's toughest schedules and a 12.4 rating. It was No. 14 last year with an 18-5 record.
The biggest improvement in the top 10 was made by No. 10 Las Cruces, which compiled an 18-11 record and vaulted 27 places from it's 2015 12-12 record and No. 37 ranking.
Five teams from Albuquerque finished in the top 10.
