The Tour visited Maryland on Wednesday morning, January 23rd...only the 2nd MD school we've honored in 3 years. River Hill High School, led by Head Coach Brian Van Deusen were the recipients of our ceremony.
Before I get into our celebration, let me throw out some numbers first: 551 points scored. 21 POINTS GIVEN UP. 11 SHUTOUTS. Incredible...absolutely incredible.
This Tour stop was one of those that we love to be a part of. The setting was a senior assembly, complete with MaxPreps' Charlie Thompson, MaxPreps photographers, the team coaching staff and the Maryland Army National Guard, led by SSG Tom Campbell.
In front of a packed auditorium of 400 people, the Army National Guard tossed out t shirts, footballs and beachballs to an enthusiastic crowd. The team took to the stage standing in front of the Tour of Champions banner, as (MaxPreps') Thompson addressed the crowd and the team. As expected, the speech came back to that unbelievable stat - 21 points given up & 11 shutouts. SSG Campbell took the mic next, presenting Coach Van Deusen with the MaxPreps Tour of Champions trophy.
And so, the number 31 team in the country was honored for their amazing success. With a strong core of players in place for the '08 season, the Tour of Champions is poised to return to River Hill HS once again!
