Green-Beckham was rushed overnight to the St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis, six hours from his home in Springfield, Mo., for surgery that would allow him to begin daily chemotherapy.
He is expected to spend the next two months there before he is able to return to Springfield.
The leukemia was discovered after Green-Beckham complained of pain in both sides of his hips and developed a fever last week.
Only a freshman, Green-Beckham was a stand out basketball player for
Hillcrest (Springfield, Mo.). He also played football for the Hornets under head coach John Beckham, who is Green-Beckham's adoptive father.
His diagnosis likely means the end of Green-Beckham's high school sports career, as he's expected to continue chemotherapy for the next three years.
