East Valley recap Nov. 7, 2012
Poly moved up to 925 from 955 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in East Valley. The Parrots climbed the ranks as a result of besting Monroe 29-0.
Verdugo Hills extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating North Hollywood, 28-21. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.
Verdugo Hills' dynamic duo of Mark Powell and Josh Riggs proved tough for the Huskies to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Powell threw for 212 yards and three touchdowns and Riggs had 120 yards receiving. Carter Otte helped Verdugo Hills' passing attack out by catching five balls for 61 yards.
PAUL DUNCANTELL was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 151 yards on 13 carries as Poly topped North Hollywood. Teammate HORACIO BARRON added to the ground attack by rushing for 101 yards.
GARCIA ULISES made the biggest impact on defense this week as Grant lost to Canoga Park. The 5-foot-8 senior racked up two sacks.
The Dons' Powell and Riggs have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading East Valley in both passing and receiving yards. Powell has thrown for 2293 yards this season, while Riggs, a 5-foot-8 receiver, has 79 catches for 1328 yards. GENTRY CHRISTOPHER C from the Lancers leads the league in rushing with 978 yards.
He has recorded 56 catches for 946 yards this year.
