To find out, MaxPreps and Lateral Sports teamed up and found the alma mater of every player on an NFL roster as of opening day (we included suspended and injured reserve players). Then we broke it all down by state and came up with the table below.
You will find that Arizona has sent 29 players to the league this season, and that more come from Chandler than any other school in the state, with four. Second place is a tie between Hamilton and Mountain Ridge three each.
Want some more fun facts? How about these:
- Nobody from Arizona is on an NFC West roster, obviously including the home-state Arizona Cardinals. And only one AFC West team (San Diego Chargers) has any Arizona products.
- The New Orleans Saints and Green Bay Packers each have three Arizona players.
- The Grand Canyon state has three long snappers on NFL rosters. Not a bad total considering that most teams only carry one.
- Linebacker is the most common position for players from Arizona schools with five, followed by defensive end and guard with four each.
- Blake Martinez and Ka'Deem Carey were teammates at Canyon del Oro in 2010, and now they are rivals in the rough-and-tumble NFC North.
- Brett Hundley (sophomore) was a backup quarterback for Markus Wheaton's senior season at Chandler. Then he teamed with Paul Perkins in his final two years (where he started).
