Chopticon's (Morganza, Md.) push for pledges during Rally Week is holding up. But there is still work to be done in the campaign to fight childhood cancer and raise awareness.
Chopticon has raised total of $5,987 and is faring well on the field as well with a 2-1 record. The Braves added over $1,500 to their national-best total from a week ago.
"We definitely did it on our end in the fundraising," Chopticon head coach Anthony Lisanti said last week of raising money to help St. Jude Children's Research Hospital fight childhood cancer. "Now we have to do our work in putting it in the end zone."

MaxPreps and PledgeIt.org have joined forces to encourage high school football programs across the country to not only raise money for St. Jude, but to raise awareness for childhood cancer. Teams and their communities can participate in Touchdowns Against Cancer by pledging a one-time donation or a dollar amount for every touchdown their favorite football team scores in September.
Should Chopticon hold onto the top spot through one more weekend, it would become the first school in four years of Touchdowns Against Cancer to win a second team title.
Individually,
Connor Heffler of St. Augustine has raised $2,898 to lead the rest of the field heading into the final weekend of September.
P.J. O'Toole of
Smithson Valley (Spring Branch, Texas) has raised $1,665 while Chopticon's
Anthony Inscoe and
Tyson Gregory sit third and fourth after raising $1,075 and $915, respectively.
"My great grandmother's favorite charity was St. Jude," Gregory said last week. "So when she passed away, my family kind of kept it going. Everybody started doing it. They'll all donate to a good thing."
Wakeland (Frisco, Texas) has put 12 touchdowns on the scoreboard through three weeks and raised $4,090 for St. Jude's while Smithson Valley and
Lone Peak (Gallatin Gateway, Mont.) are battling it out for fourth with $4,040 and $3,993 raised, respectively.
As of Tuesday evening, high school football programs across the nation have scored 1,253 touchdowns and drawn 904 pledges from donors, raising $90,397 for the 2019 campaign.
