CINCINNATI, Ohio - After three lead changes,
St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio) took the lead for good when
Dwayne Aaron ran for a touchdown with 4:00 left in the fourth quarter and held on to upset
Archbishop Moeller (Cincinnati, Ohio) 49-42 on Saturday.
The Fighting Crusaders pulled ahead on a touchdown run by
Spencer Iacovone, and subsequently went into halftime leading 35-21. The Eagles scored the winning points with a touchdown run by Aaron that came in the fourth quarter.
Despite scoring 14 points in the third, St. Edward still trailed by 7 points going into the fourth quarter. But 14 points in the fourth helped SE pull out the victory.
The Lakewood school looked to be in trouble when it trailed by 21 points before coming back to upset Archbishop Moeller.
Iacovone made a difference for AM. The senior quarterback ran for two touchdowns.
Aaron played well for the Eagles in the victory. The senior running back ran for four touchdowns.
When the two teams played each other last season, St. Edward came away with a 42-27 victory.
The defeat comes as a step back for Archbishop Moeller, which notched a 48-13 victory over Indianapolis Cathedral in its previous outing.
Archbishop Moeller (6-3) will play a non-conference game against Trinity next week, while St. Edward (9-0) will take on St. Ignatius in a Freelance game.
