It may have been the most surprising score of the NHIAA boys lacrosse season, and it came in the final game.
Third-seeded Hanover held off a furious late rally to beat top-seeded Bishop Guertin, 9-8, Wednesday night to claim this year’s Division I title.
Hanover, which dropped a 10-7 decision to BG earlier this year, completed its season 20-2 overall and 17-2 against Division I competition. The Marauders also beat BG in the 2007 championship game. BG hadn’t lost to a Division I opponent since that game, and entered Wednesday contest with a 32-game winning streak within the league.
Hanover led 9-5 with 3:42 to play, but BG (18-3, 16-1) made things interesting thanks to goals by Tom Labadini, Jack Krzyston and Matt Bayne during an 83-second span. Hanover withstood heavy pressure in the final minute, when goalie Sam Gest stymied BG’s attempt to tie the game. Gest made 15 saves in the victory.
“The shots they were getting were shots that I felt I could save almost all of the time,” Gest said. “Even when they were within 10 yards, the angles of the shots really weren't that good.
“This is a feeling I’ll probably never forget.”
Division II: Bow 15, Dover 8 Bow received six goals from Alex Davies and won the Division II championship for the second time in as many years.
Sean Dippold and Christian Calkins each added three goals for the top-seeded Falcons, who completed their season with a 15-1 record.
Third-seeded Dover finished 14-4.
Division III: Kearsarge 10, Monadnock 8
Sophomore goaltender Chris Galluzzo made 15 saves to help third-seeded Kearsarge upset top-seeded Monadnock in the Division III championship game.
It was the only loss of the season for Monadnock, which ended 16-1. Kearsarge, which also won the title in 2006, improved to 15-3.
Stephen Patch and Sam Morgan each collected three goals for Kearsarge.
Girls Lacrosse: Cavaliers win first title
Kati Sousa scored five goals to help top-seeded Hollis-Brookline cap its season with an 11-6 triumph over second-seeded Kearsarge in the Division III championship game.
Hollis-Brookline, which beat Kearsarge 13-2 earlier in the year, finished 15-0 against Division III competition this season, and outscored its opponents 205-59. It was the program’s first state title.
Chelsea Slogic scored five goals for Kearsarge, which finished 14-3.

Top-seeded Londonderry secured the school’s first state championship in lacrosse by beating rival Pinkerton in the Division I championship game.
