It was a perfect week for the MaxPreps power rankings: not a single team changed position in spite of last week's action. Among the action were the efforts of Cardinal Hayes's sophomore Sofian Massoud, an offensive menace who scored five total TDs.
Can't Touch This
Cardinal Hayes's 44 - 16 win over Mt. St. Michael Academy last week had a lot to do with the leadership of sophomore Sofian Massoud. Massoud threw for 383 yards and five touchdowns. That performance landed Massoud among the top power-ranked players for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
One of the hottest tickets last week involved the clash between Lindenhurst (7th in the MaxPreps state rankings) and Oceanside (19th). Lindenhurst strolled past Oceanside with points to spare, taking the game 40 - 23. Even if it didn't bump Lindenhurst up the rankings, the win at least kept the team from dropping.
No Stoppin 'Em
80. That was the combined point total for Lawrence and Westhampton Beach when they went head to head last week, and it set the benchmark for all power ranking teams. Westhampton Beach took its contest against Lawrence by a conclusive 54 - 26 score. The MaxPreps rankings were spot on as they projected Westhampton Beach as the clear winner.
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Darien (1st in the MaxPreps state rankings) and West Haven (10th). With the two teams stumbling in off of losses, both Darien and West Haven will be hungry for the win. Darien has never lost back-to-back this season, but West Haven hopes to show it that there is a first time for everything.
