Video: Kade Warner 55-yard TD reception
Desert Mountain senior breaks record for career catches in Arizona.
Kade Warner clearly lives quite securely in the spotlight.
Even with a two-time NFL MVP dad, one who also serves as an assistant coach on his team, the 6-foot-2, 205-pound senior receiver from
Desert Mountain (Scottsdale, Ariz.) is a record breaker in the state of Arizona.
Warner hauled in eight passes for 164 yards and scored three touchdowns on Friday in a 49-42 win over Horizon to become the state career leader in receptions.
The son of former Rams and Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner now has 225 career catches for 2,692 yards and 33 touchdowns. The old career mark was 221.
Kade, also a basketball and track and field standout, showed remarkable determination and elusiveness in the 55-yard catch and touchdown run he scored on Friday. (See video).
He helped the Wolves win their second straight game after starting the season 0-6. They moved up a classification to 6A this season, but now appear to be jelling.
Kade didn't have trouble adjusting to the higher level with 14 catches in his first game this season for 164 yards and three scores in a 49-42 loss to Carson.
He had 62 catches for 688 yards and six scores as a sophomore, 96 receptions and 1,142 yards and 15 touchdowns as a junior and eight games into 2016 he has 67 catches for 812 yards and 12 scores.
Kade doesn't have a Division I college offer yet, presumably because his lack of top end speed. But he can draw from his dad who was bagging groceries making $5.50 an hour before turning to the Arena League and eventually to the NFL with the Rams.
He went on to throw for more than 32,000 career yards, win one Super Bowl, a Super Bowl MVP, two season MVP awards and finish among the career league leaders in passing rating and percentage.
