Chicago Mt. Carmel was among the winners, beating
Batavia in the Class 7A state championship game at the University of Illinois. That victory helped propel the Caravan to the No. 1 ranking in the final state MaxPreps Top 25.
One of four Illinois schools to finish the 2022 season with a perfect 13-0 record, Mt. Carmel upended the Bulldogs 44-20 on Saturday to claim its fourth state title in 11 seasons.
Led by 2022 MaxPreps Illinois High School Football Player of the Year
Blainey Dowling, who completed 25 of 40 passes for 262 yards and four touchdowns in the title game, Mt. Carmel jumped out to a 28-0 lead in the title game.
East St. Louis lays claim to the No. 3 spot after finishing the season with a 12-2 record and the Class 6A state title.
