A number of current and former Delaware football players made their collegiate plans clear on Feb. 4 by signing letters of intent.
The recruitment of Newark’s Malcolm Bunche captured the most attention in the weeks leading up to Signing Day. Bunche, a 6-foo-6, 320-pound offensive lineman, originally cast his lot with Rutgers before reconsidering and signing with Miami.
Others headed to major Division I programs include Concord’s Justin Brown, headed to Penn State, Duron Harmon of Caesar Rodney (Rutgers) and Jamal and Jamil Merrell of Hodgson Vo-Tech (Rutgers).

Boys Basketball: Concord displays dominant defense against McKean
Concord rolled past McKean 66-34 on Thursday thanks to some outstanding defensive play.
The Raiders outscored McKean 14-2 in the first quarter as the Highlanders failed to record a single field goal.
McKean managed 10 points or more in the next three quarters, but Concord averaged 17 points per quarter, helping the Raiders walk away with a 32 point victory.
Concord’s Marsalis Stewart was an imposing presence on defense at 6-foot-7. Stewart scored a game high 15 points and also pulled down 7 rebounds.
Jordan Dupree contributed 13 points to Concord’s cause and teammate Richie Lober added 9 points.
The most impressive aspect of Concord’s win was that it was able contain one of the state’s better players in McKean’s Daron Lewis, who did not record a single point for the first time this season.
McKean was led in scoring by Darryl Driver with 12 points. Marcus Gregory backed Driver up with 10 points of his own.
Concord’s defense limited McKean to only 4 field goals on 8 attempts as the Raiders went 12-of-17 in comparison. The Raiders also out-rebounded McKean 26-14.
Girls Basketball: Caesar Rodney comes back to beat rival Dover
Caesar Rodney overcame a late fourth quarter deficit to beat Dover 64-54 on Thursday night.
CR’s Courtney Baynard scored a game-high 21 points and also recorded 8 rebounds as the Riders improved 16-2 and 8-1 in the Henlopen Conference. The CR victory also ended Dover’s 10-game winning streak.
Going into halftime with a 34-28 lead, the Riders were outscored 18-8 in the third quarter as they recorded only one field goal and committed 13 turnovers in that quarter alone.
Trailing 46-42 going into the fourth quarter, CR caught a break when Dover’s Nichelle Potter and Amber Sullivan both fouled out.
CR was able to outscore Dover 22-8 in the final quarter to walk away with a 10-point win.
The Riders had four players score double figures with Bayard’s 21, Jazmine Reeves adding 12, 11 points from Kelci Roberts and 10 points from Deandra Scott.
Dover’s Antionette Robertson scored a team-high 20 points and teammate Jazmine Miller added 15 for the Senators who have fallen to 14-3 and 7-3 in the Henlopen Conference.
