At the 2026 NCAA Convention in Washington, D.C. last week, flag football entered the Emerging Sports for Women program.
An emerging sport is a women's sport recognized by the NCAA that is intended to help schools provide more athletic opportunities for women and more sport-sponsorship options for institutions, while helping that sport achieve NCAA Championship status.
Since the creation of the program in 1994, eight sports have become championship sports.
The Big Ten offer to the California standout could open the door for other prominent female athletes in flag football to receive more opportunities across the country.
