Allen (Texas) extended its regular season win streak to 47 games Friday night with a 28-7 win over
Evangel Christian Academy (Shreveport, La.).
Sturges, a 5-foot-9, 200-pound senior, ran for 175 yards and three touchdowns while tacking on another 62 receiving yards with another score.
Allen was sluggish offensively in the first half but could afford to play it safe while giving up just 78 total yards and seven points to the visitors from Louisiana. The Eagles eventually grinded out 256 yards on the ground and 332 total yards.
Allen (2-0) beat Evangel Christian Academy (1-1) 45-10 a year ago and have won five in a row against out-of-state opponents dating back to 2014. Teams from Alabama, Florida and South Carolina have all come up short against the perennial Lone Star State power during that span.
Allen's last regular season loss came Sept. 28, 2012 against Coppell in overtime.
