The champion of the state's largest classification the last two seasons — Allen's Eagles — now own the top spot in MaxPreps Texas Top 25.
After a slow start, Allen avoided a Week 3 upset, pulling away for a 58-28 victory over Boyd (McKinney) for consecutive win No. 30.
Avoiding an upset is something highly-ranked foes in the last two Class 5A Division II state championship games could not do.
Cedar Hill and Katy, the former No. 1 and No. 3 teams respectively, both suffered road defeats.
Skyline (Dallas) climbed to No. 3 with its
40-30 win over Cedar Hill.
The Woodlands snapped Katy's 50-game regular season winning streak with a convincing 24-7 victory.
New No. 2 DeSoto showed no falloff with the insertion of sophomore quarterback Jaylin Nelson for injured junior Tristen Wallace. Nelson had a hand in seven touchdowns as the Eagles coasted by South Oak Cliff (Dallas) 53-13.
