Watch the Oilers' fullback in action as they made a 35-point jump in the rankings.State tournament regional championship success has enabled several Indiana football teams to make major moves in this week's MaxPreps Computer Rankings.
The biggest jump was 35 places by Whiting - from No. 135 to No. 100 - following a 55-14 rout of Winamac to win the Class 2A regional for the second straight year. Dylan White led the 535-yard rushing onslaught by carrying 14 times for 257 yards and three touchdowns and running his season total to 1,081 yards. Whiting raised its record to 12-1 and has won seven in a row following a 21-0 loss to Hanover Central.
The second-biggest jump was 31 places by Indianapolis Lutheran, which defeated Fountain Central 48-19 to win the Class A regional. Fountain Central had lost only once previously and was ranked No. 78 entering the game. Lutheran's defense forced five turnovers and Zach White fired four touchdown passes to give their school a seven-game winning streak.
Pioneer probably staged the biggest upset by nipping previously unbeaten Class A power Central Catholic 28-27. Central Catholic had been ranked 26th in the state. That enabled Pioneer to move up 22 places to No. 36 and raise its record to a perfect 13-0.
Brownstown Central posted another major upset with a 30-7 victory over Evansville Memorial to notch the Class 3A regional crown. It marked the first regional title for the winners, who gained 17 places to No. 29 and raised their record to 12-1. Memorial had been ranked No. 29 the previous week.
