Middletown athletic director Gary Lebo was thrilled with the news he had to share last Monday afternoon and it was for good reason.
The Middies named Troy Everhart as the school's next head football coach, pending Board of Education approval on Feb. 28. With Everhart's arrival, the Greater Miami Conference just became a bit more interesting. Everhart's resume is well known. He takes over the Middletown program after spending the past season with the University of Cincinnati as the coordinator of recruiting services.
In 2009, Everhart won a Division II state title with Winton Woods. He led Winton Woods to five consecutive postseason appearances and consistently had top college recruits each year.
"We are pleased to have Troy join the Middletown community," Middletown superintendent Greg Rasmussen said. "He is not only an outstanding educator and coach, but also a high quality leader."
Everhart takes over for Jason Krause, who left Middletown in January to take the head coaching position at Fairfield, which is also in the GMC. Middletown was 10-0 in the regular season in 2010 and was GMC co-champions.
"There is a tremendous amount of talent here," Everhart told the Middletown Journal. "But I'm not the end all, be all. Some of the best teams I've had were player-coached teams. We elect captains and we need to let them be that. We had that at Winton Woods and that's why we made the playoffs."
Middletown returns several top players next season, including junior-to-be quarterback
Jalin Marshall, who is considered to be one of the state's top players in the 2013 class. Marshall rushed for 1,426 yards and 17 touchdowns and threw for 693 yards and 12 touchdowns last season. He had offers from Cincinnati and Pittsburgh in late 2010.
MICHIGAN AND ILLINOIS MAKE OFFERS TO A.J. WILLIAMSSycamore (Cincinnati) junior tight end

KAUFMAN WILL STEP DOWN AS PRINCETON ATHLETIC DIRECTORLongtime Princeton athletic director Scott Kaufman will leave the position on March 31 after the Board of Education recently approved a spending freeze through the rest of the school year. Kaufman, who is vice president of the Southwest District Athletic Board, spent 13 years as the Princeton athletic director. Kaufman was also influential in getting several basketball and football games televised the past few years on a Cincinnati-area television network.
