Video: Nation's top-rated junior QB D.J. Uiagalelei nearly perfectSt. John Bosco standout has completed 74 percent of his passes in three games for nation's No. 1 team.
When you play quarterback in Southern California — and you're rated the No. 1 player nationally in your class — expectations, pressure and buzz follow.
Especially when you play for the nation's top-ranked team.
None of it, evidently, bothers
St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) junior
D.J. Uiagalelei.
The 6-foot-5, 240-pound quarterback was nearly perfect Friday during a
52-14 win over Hawaii power Mililani, completing 25-of-31 passes for 380 yards and six touchdowns.
Known to have an extremely strong arm, Uiagalelei has shown remarkable accuracy in three games, going 46-of-62 (74 percent) for 722 yards, 12 touchdowns and one interceptions. He's nearly thrown as many touchdowns as incomplete passes.
He's following in the footsteps of other highly regarded SoCal signal callers like John Elway, Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart, and most recently
Josh Rosen and
JT Daniels, the MaxPreps 2017 National Player of the Year now starting at USC. But Uiagalelei deflects the attention like he fends off a pass rush.
"To me, it's my offensive line," he told Eric Sondheimer of the
Los Angeles Times. "When I have all the time in the world, it makes my job easier, and I have receivers I can trust."
He's not being entirely modest.
Stanford-bound receiver
Colby Bowman had seven catches for 140 yards and three touchdowns, and USC-bound
Kristopher Hutson had six catches for 113 yards and a score.
Bosco has outscored its three foes 157-14.

D.J. Uiagalelei threw for 380 yards, six touchdowns and just six incompletions on Friday.
