Senior quarterback
Gabby Werr of
Alonso (Tampa) broke the school record for career passing yards earlier this week while helping the Ravens extend their win streak to 15 games dating back to last April.
Two days, Herr was back at it in leading Alonso (8-0) to a 20-19 overtime victory over
Lennard (Ruskin).
Heading into Friday's game at
Tarpon Springs, which can be seen on the
NFHS Network at 5 p.m. ET, Werr is at 10,428 career passing yards, which places her sixth on the all-time list for the state of Florida. This season, she has thrown for 2,083 yards and 33 touchdowns.
As a junior, Werr threw for 4,789 yards with 71 touchdowns while leading Alonso to its fourth state championship and being named the MaxPreps Florida Player of the Year.
Alonso features 10 players with at least one receiving touchdown this year, including sophomores
Natalie Fischer and
Gigi Gambino, who were recently named to the
USA 17U National Team. Juniors
Shea Plantz and
Mia Garcia lead the team with a combined 15 touchdowns while sophomore
Jewels Gambino follows with 259 receiving yards and four scores.
