A month into the UIL girls soccer season, Region II is shaping up to be the most challenging when it comes to gaining a berth to the state tournament April 12-15 in Georgetown.
Based on MaxPreps Top 25 rankings across the three UIL classifications, Region II teams hold down the most spots with 30. Next best is Region I with 21 followed by Region III with 14 and Region IV with 10.
Region II generally occupies the eastern area of the state and includes portions of suburban Houston and suburban Dallas. Region II is particularly strong this season in Class 5A, home to 15 of the 25 top-ranked teams. The soccer hotbed of Frisco accounts for seven top 25 teams including No. 1 Centennial, the defending state champion.
Undefeated Carroll (Southlake), which had five players sign college letters of intent last week, occupies the top spot in Class 6A with a 10-0-0 record. Kennedale (7-0-1), a 2016 state champion, is No. 1 in Class 4A. Both schools are in Region I.
