The Chicago area was buzzing this week in anticipation of a big game between unbeatens
Simeon (Chicago) and
Benet Academy (Lisle), both ranked among the top 14 teams in this week's Xcellent 25.

But the Saturday night headliner of the City-Suburban Showdown took a bit of a hit Wednesday as
Whitney Young (Chicago) (17-9) shocked No. 3 Simeon (23-1) in the Chicago Public League semifinals, 64-50.
The Wolverines hammered the Dolphins 60-39 just 18 days ago. In the span between games, Whitney Young head coach Tyrone Slaughter was suspended for 10 days and most had dismissed the perennial power as a legitimate state championship threat.
According to the Chicago Tribune, Whitney Young received 20 points from 5-foot-7 junior guard
Derrick Randolph to help end Simeon's 30-game win streak dating back to last season.
No. 14 Benet Academy (25-0) has the week off until its meeting with Simeon on Saturday night at the UIC Pavilion.
