The high school football season in Indiana came to a close over the weekend with championship games in all six classifications at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Center Grove (Greenwood) was among the winners, beating Westfield 38-14 in the Class 6A championship game.
That victory, coupled with a 14-0 record and tremendous play this season, makes Center Grove the 2020 MaxPreps Champion for the state of Indiana.
Senior running back
Carson Steele powered the Trojans in Friday's title game, carrying 31 times for 139 yards and two touchdowns. He finished the season with 1,659 yards and 31 scores.
Center Grove's defense was responsible for five shutouts this fall and held every opponent under 14 points. Top 100 recruit
Caden Curry was one of the driving forces behind that dominance, piling up 61 tackles, 21.5 tackles for loss and eight sacks. The 6-foot-5, 250-pound senior sports offers from Alabama and Ohio State among others.
Under head coach Eric Moore, the Trojans have made six championship game appearances since 2000 with titles in 2008, 2015 and now 2020.
Class 5A state champion Cathedral deserves special mention, capping a 13-1 campaign with a 46-28 win over Zionsville. The Fighting Irish beat three top 25 teams from Ohio and suffered their only loss Oct. 16 to Center Grove. Cathedral has won eight state titles since 2000 and 13 overall.
