Click here to see the girls basketball preseason Fab 5 from every state1. Regis Jesuit (Aurora)2012-13 record: 26-2, Class 5A state champions
Head coach: Carl Mattei
The Raiders won it all last season and cracked the Xcellent 25, and did it all without a single senior on the roster. That bodes well for Mattei, as he’ll again have the services of leading scorer and Purdue-bound
Justine Hall (17 points a game last season) and the inside presence of Texas-bound
Diani Akigbogun.
2. Highlands Ranch2012-13 record: 23-5
Head coach: Caryn Jarocki
Last season’s big-school runner-up is a perennial favorite as talent cycles through the Falcons' gym seamlessly. Senior
Ciera Morgan, also a track standout, is Jarocki’s top returning scorer this season, but the Falcons always seem to have young playmakers waiting in the wings.
3. Broomfield2012-13 record: 25-2
Head coach: Mike Croell
After winning five straight 4A titles, the Eagles have come up short the past two years (they lost 53-50 to eventual champ Pueblo South in the semifinals last season). Don’t count on them missing out on a third. Croell’s balanced group returns its top five scorers, including standout forward
Callie Kaiser.
4. Cherry Creek (Greenwood Village)2012-13 record: 18-7
Head coach: Chris Curneen
While an inordinate amount of teams graduated their star player after last season, the Bruins have theirs back.
Mikaela Eppard averaged a hefty double-double of 14.5 points and 10.9 rebounds last season and will be something of an elder statesman in the Centennial League. The Bruins were ousted in the Sweet 16 last season.
5. Monarch (Louisville)2012-13 record: 14-11
Head coach: Gail Hook
Give the Coyotes a mulligan for last season. Longtime coach Gail Hook took a one-year sabbatical for family reasons and center Mae Williams was injured and only returned late in the season. The Coyotes have added young talent, including freshman center
Jasmine Jeffcoat, the daughter of former Dallas Cowboys standout Jim Jeffcoat. Leading scorer
Raegen Rohn also returns.
