The high school football season in Nebraska came to a close last week with state champions crowned in multiple classifications.
Pierce was among the winners, beating
Aurora in the Class C1 title game at the University of Nebraska's Memorial Stadium. That victory helped propel the Bluejays to the No. 1 ranking in the final state MaxPreps Top 25.
One of four Nebraska high schools to finish the 2022 season with an unblemished record, Pierce (13-0) upended the Huskies 38-14 last Tuesday to claim its fifth state title and second in three seasons.
Led by dual-threat quarterback
Abram Scholting, who passed and ran for 3,039 yards and 47 touchdowns, the Bluejays outscored their opposition 689-255.
Class C2 powerhouse
Norfolk Catholic (Norfolk) claimed its first state title since 2017 to finish No. 3. The Knights are now proud owners of 11 state crowns.
MaxPreps Nebraska High School Football Player of the Year
Zane Flores guided
Gretna into the Class A state final before falling 43-41 to
Omaha Westside.
Tristan Alvano booted a 45-yard field goal with time running out to help the Warriors finish No. 4 while Gretna took over the No. 6 spot.
Class B champion and No. 5
Bennington was the only school to successfully defend its title from 2021. The Badgers have won 26 straight games.
