When
Pasco (Dade City, Fla.) walked off the field following a dramatic, season-ending 41-38 triple-overtime loss to
Wakulla (Crawfordville, Fla.), it seemed the worst part of its night had passed.
However, players and coaches were then faced with a looted locker room.
According to several reports, clothes, phones and other belongings were stolen while the team was on the field.
The crime, first reported by Talahassee Democrat writer Ira Schoffel
on Twitter, only exacerbated a heartbreaking night for Pasco.
According to
Andy Villamarzo of the Tampa Tribune, team property was also stolen.
The incident marred an otherwise great football game between the two Class 5A semifinalist.
The teams
played to a 21-21 tie at the end of regulation. After trading touchdowns in the first two extra frames, Pasco was forced to settle for a field goal, a 22-yard make by
Brandon Ray to give Pasco a 38-35 lead.
Wakulla then scored the game-winner, an 8-yard touchdown run from
Demetrius Lindsey.
Incidents of theft are not unprecedented at big playoff games.
Last December, players from
Phoebus took cell phones from Battlefield players in between Virginia state championship games. The two teams briefly shared a locker room.
That incident was resolved swiftly, as Phoebus players returned the stolen items before leaving the stadium.
