After rain and poor field conditions forced the postponement of two games, Team USA 18U finally got a game in Tuesday and stayed unbeaten at the COPABE 18U Pan A Championships in Colombia.
Team USA took on host Colombia and had single run rallies in the first, fourth, seventh and ninth innings to pull out the 4-0 victory.
The United States used two pitchers to gain the shutout. Carson Kelly went most of the way, limiting Colombia to just five hits over eight innings pitched. Kelly, from Westview (Portland, Ore.), did not give up a walk and he struck out seven.
Carson Fulmer finished up with a scoreless ninth inning while giving up a base hit.
Alberto Almora continues to have the hot hand for Team USA, as he went 3-for-5 in the game. For the tournament, Almora is second on the team in batting average at .500, however he has a team-high nine hits, three doubles and six RBIs.
Alex Bregman was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Gavin Cecchini and Mikey White had the only other two hits. Bregman, White and Almora all had doubles in the win.
Team USA will take on Bahamas today and will resume a contest with Puerto Rico that was suspended after the fourth inning by rain with Puerto Rico leading the United States 2-0.
