Week 7 Lone Star of the Week
Emory Miller, Mesquite Horn – In a 39-28 come-from-behind victory over North Mesquite, Miller completed 25-of-33 passes for 349 yards and three touchdowns. Miller tacked on 43 yards on the ground and another touchdown in the win.

Honorable Mention
Robert Bass, Fort Bend Elkins – Bass rushed for 248 yards and six touchdowns in a 56-49 victory over Fort Bend Clements.
Darrell Cantu-Harkless, Crockett – Crockett needed every single one of Cantu-Harkless’ 273 rushing yards in a 23-22 win over Travis. Cantu-Harkless rushed for two touchdowns and kicked a crucial 41-yard field goal in the fourth quarter of the victory.
Kasey Carrier, Pearland – Carrier rushed for 288 yards and four touchdowns in a 63-28 victory over Pasadena Memorial.
Noah Copeland, San Antonio Brandeis – Copeland rushed for 210 yards on 33 carries and scored four touchdowns in a 35-28 overtime victory over San Antonio Marshall. Copeland’s 3-yard run in overtime won it for Brandeis.
Jafus Gaines, Houston Chavez – Gaines caught nine passes for 240 yards and four touchdowns in a 46-7 victory over Houston Bellaire last week.
Mark Garcia, Alice – Alice remained unbeaten at 7-0 with a 35-21 victory over Flour Bluff. Garcia caught three passes from quarterback A.J. Benavides for 144 yards and three touchdowns n the victory. Garcia’s touchdown grabs covered 48, 19, and 77 yards in the win.
Garrett Gilbert, Lake Travis – Gilbert is putting up numbers worthy of his own recap every week. For the 4A top-ranked Cavaliers, Gilbert completed 20-of-29 passes for 376 yards and five touchdowns in a 57-0 rout of Hendrickson.
Garrett Gilleland, Georgetown – There is more than one Garrett that throws touchdowns strikes in the Austin area. Gilleland threw for 311 yards and three touchdowns on 23-of-30 passing as Georgetown moved to 6-1 on the season with a 31-24 come-from-behind win over Westwood.
Aaron Green, San Antonio Madison – Green, the MaxPreps National Player of the Week earlier this season, rushed for 211 yards on 23 carries and made four visits to the end zone in a 44-21 win over San Antonio Churchill. Green scored three touchdowns in the second quarter alone.
Cody Green, Dayton – Green threw for 283 yards and a touchdown and added 143 rushing yards and five touchdowns in a 46-13 win over Barbers Hill.
Hayden Greenbauer, San Antonio Clark – In a 45-34 loss to San Antonio Warren, Greenbauer rushed for 239 yards and three touchdowns and added 128 yards and a touchdown in the loss.
Daniel Horstman, San Antonio Warren – In a 45-34 victory over San Antonio Clark, Horstman completed 13-of-18 passes for 326 yards and four touchdowns.
Stephen Hopkins, Flower Mound Marcus – Despite a 42-35 loss to Southlake Carroll, Hopkins was nearly impossible to stop rushing for 313 yards and four touchdowns on 24 carries.
Jacob Karam, Friendswood – Karam completed 18-of-27 passing for 353 yards and four touchdowns in a 61-28 win over Dawson. Karam added a touchdown run in the victory.
Kendial Lawrence, Rockwall-Heath – On 35 carries, Lawrence rushed for 247 yards and three touchdowns in a 42-28 win over Royce City. Lawrence added a 20-yard touchdown reception from Drew Hollingshead in the win.
Austin Lindsay, Uvalde – In a 46-41 victory over San Antonio Southside, Lindsay completed 19-of-25 passes for 352 yards and four touchdowns. Lindsay added two rushing touchdowns in the win.
Hasan Lipscomb, Cypress Ridge – In a 68-21 win over Cypress Fair on national television, Lipscomb scored rushing touchdowns of 55, 5, 38, and 8 yards and finished with 251 yards on 19 carries in the win.
Dedrick McKnight, Cedar Park – In a 38-21 victory over Vista Ridge, McKnight did all the dirty work with 285 yards on 18 carries, but only crossed the goal line one time on a 33-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.
David Piland, Southlake Carroll – Piland, a junior, was called upon to replace injured starting quarterback Kyle Padron. Piland responded with 342 total yards and five touchdowns in a 42-35 victory over Flower Mound Marcus as the Dragons avoided their second straight loss.
O.J. Sanchez, Corpus Christi Ray – In a 47-13 victory over Rockport-Fulton, Sanchez completed 17-of-24 passes for 236 yards and six touchdowns.
Jameill Showers, Shoemaker – In a 32-24 win over A&M Consolidated, Showers rained three touchdown passes on 12-of-18 passing for 302 yards and added 44 rushing yards.
Russell Shepard, Cypress Ridge – On national television, Shepard displayed his dominance. Shepard completed all 11 of his passes for 175 yards and two touchdowns and added 125 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground in a 68-21 win over Cypress Fair.
Ryan Swope, Austin Westlake – Despite its not-so typical start to the season, don’t count out Westlake. Swope rushed for 140 yards and three touchdowns and hooked up with quarterback Tanner Price on three passes for 121 yards in a 56-20 win over Connally.
Domingo Torres, El Paso Montwood – Torres toted the rock 39 times in a 28-14 victory over El Paso Coronado, rushing for 257 yards and four touchdowns in the win.
Logan Vick, Kerrville Tivy – In a 40-28 victory over New Braunfels Canyon, Vick caught 13 passes for 211 yards but did not reach the end zone for Tivy.
Lone Star Storylines
In 4A, Is Lake Travis Beatable?
Lake Travis put up another impressive display en route to a 43-0 halftime lead over Hendrickson, which entered the game with just one loss.
Garrett Gilbert threw for 376 yards and five touchdowns, four of them coming in the first half. Gilbert completed 20-of-29 passes in the victory over the Cavaliers. Cade McCrary caught five passes for 120 yards and a touchdown to lead the receivers. Andy Erickson rushed for two touchdowns and added another on a reception from Gilbert to pace Lake Travis. Chris Aydam rushed for a score and caught another in the rout.
Gilbert continues to post unthinkable numbers at the prep level, completing 150-of-223 passes for 2,477 yards and 30 touchdowns compared to just one interception. Gilbert has also chipped in four rushing touchdowns for the Cavaliers. McCrary has 919 receiving yards on 43 receptions for 11 touchdowns as Gilbert’s favorite target.
Lake Travis will be a tough out down the stretch. The Cavaliers just keep rolling.
Allen Pounds Plano, 56-23
Allen quarterback Matt Brown completed 14-of-16 passes for 159 yards and four touchdowns and added a 30-yard touchdown run to go along with 110 rushing yards as the Eagles surprisingly rolled over previously No. 2 Plano.
Dakarai Pecikonis caught seven passes for 81 yards and four touchdowns for Allen. Jeremy Reeves returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown, and Bradlee Waddell rushed for 68 yards on two carries, including a 55-yard touchdown run.
Carson Meger threw for 337 yards and a touchdown for Plano, but threw for three interceptions in the loss for the Wildcats. Rex Burkhead rushed for 124 yards and two touchdowns for Plano. Plano committed five turnovers in the loss.
Class 5A Top 10 Recap

1. Euless Trinity (7-0, 4-0, 1) – Defeated Keller, 49-7.
Nebraska verbal Dontrayevous Robinson has been slowed by an injury, so sophomore Tevin Williams stepped into the running back role and is the leading rusher for the Trojans so far this season. Enter Damien Hart to give Trinity a three-headed monster in the backfield. Hart rushed for 95 yards on eight carries and scored a touchdown while Robinson scored two touchdowns in the victory. Quarterback Denarius McGhee added 206 passing yards and two touchdowns to pace the top-ranked Trojans.
2. Galena Park North Shore (5-0, 2-0, 3) – Defeated Channelview, 38-0.
Another impressive defensive performance allowed North Shore to remain unbeaten. The Mustangs forced three interceptions and returned a blocked punt for a touchdown. After a scoreless first quarter, North Shore scored 17 points in the second quarter led by a touchdown pass from Alex Tillman and a 16-yard touchdown run by Tracy Woods. The Mustangs followed up the second quarter explosion with 21 more points in the third stanza, using another long Woods touchdown run and another Tillman touchdown toss. Woods finished with 99 yards on seven carries while Tillman completed 6-of-9 passes for 177 yards in the win.
3. Abilene (7-0, 3-0, 4) – Idle
Despite Abilene getting a week off to rest its bumps and bruises after defeated its last two opponents by a combined score of 144-15, the Eagles did make news this week. If you are referring to one certain hard-hitting linebacker, that is. Chris “The Hit Man” Williams declared his college choice last week. Williams, one of the top linebackers in Texas, has picked Nebraska. Through seven games, Williams has recorded a team-high 64 tackles and two interceptions for the Eagles.
4. Odessa Permian (7-0, 6-0, 5) – Defeated Lubbock High, 35-14.
Trevor Adams threw for 184 yards and two touchdowns while Brian Nunez and Sherard Ray both rushed for touchdowns as the Panthers remained unbeaten. Ray finished with 170 yards on the ground on 23 carries. Alan Castillejos and Ryan Rumbaugh caught touchdown passes from Adams, with Rumbaugh leading the team with 81 receiving yards on five receptions.
5. Allen (6-1, 3-0, 8) – Defeated Plano, 56-23.
6. The Woodlands (6-0, 2-0, 6) – Defeated Oak Ridge, 41-7.
Andy McCloud finished 14-of-22 through the air for 179 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Highlanders. Ryan Eastman hauled in touchdown strikes of 14 and 6 yards from McLoud, while Daniel Lasco rushed for 147 yards on 12 carries including a 51-yard touchdown scamper. The Woodlands held Oak Ridge to 30 yards of offense and just one first down in the second half and intercepted three passes in the victory.
7. Copperas Cove (7-0, 4-0, 7) – Defeated Belton 52-26.
Despite missing its top two leading rushers, the Bulldawgs pounded Belton. Tommy McLeain and Brelan Chancellor combined for nearly 170 yards on the ground and three touchdowns as Copperas Cove didn’t miss a beat and remained unbeaten. Josh Boyce caught five passes for 188 yards, including an 89-yard touchdown grab. Tanner Brock rushed for two touchdowns on short yardage situations to pace Copperas Cove.
8. Pearland (6-0, 4-0, 9) – Defeated Pasadena Memorial, 63-28.
At The Rig, Pearland powered its way to another impressive victory led by Kasey Carrier. Carrier rushed for 288 yards and four touchdowns, which covered 6, 26, 51, and 3 yards. Quarterback Sam Allen completed 13-of-18 passes for 189 yards and three touchdowns for the Oilers. Kevin Miller caught four passes for 66 yards and two touchdowns to pace Pearland, which finished with 589 total yards of offense in the rout. Pearland’s defense did a respectable job on stat-stuffing Memorial running back Bo Snelson, holding him to 169 yards and two touchdowns on 32 carries.
9. Southlake Carroll (5-1, 1-1, 10) – Defeated Flower Mound Marcus, 42-35.
The trigger man behind the Southlake Carroll spread offense went down to injury, so one would think Carroll’s postseason aspirations would go with it. Think again. Quarterbacks that are born to run this offense grow on trees in Dragon Country. Kyle Padron went down to an arm injury early, but David Piland saved the day. Piland threw for 242 yards and added 100 more on the ground to lead the Dragons. Piland threw for three touchdowns and added another on the ground. Trailing 35-28, Piland scored on a 9-yard run and then hit Josh Rake on a 14-yard touchdown pass to give Southlake Carroll the come-from-behind win.
10. Plano (7-1, 3-1, 2) – Lost to Allen, 56-23.

Class 4A Top Ten Recaps
1. Lake Travis (8-0, 4-0, 1) – Defeated Hendrickson, 57-0.
2. Everman (7-0, 4-0, 2) – Defeated Stephenville, 56-3.
Chris Franklin rushed for 135 yards on three carries – all going for touchdowns – in another Everman rout. Cory Franklin returned an interception 85 yards for a touchdown and added a 78-yard touchdown run in the victory. Everman scored three defensive touchdowns, including a 59-yard fumble return from Sam Birdine and a 95-yard fumble return from Barry Browning. Everman trailed 3-0 early and led just 7-3 after one quarter of play before unleashing its wrath.
3. Dallas Highland Park (7-0, 4-0, 3) – Defeated Carrollton Turner, 40-7.
Luke Woodley completed 12-of-19 passes for 236 yards and two touchdowns, while adding a rushing touchdown for the Scots. Bryan Dickenson and Dillon Zweifel also tacked on touchdown runs for Highland Park. Zweifel rushed for 64 yards to lead Highland Park, while Brookes McIhenny added 62 yards for the Scots in the win.
4. Aledo (7-0, 4-0, 4) – Defeated Saginaw, 22-7.
Despite just nine first downs and 162 total yards, the Bearcats were good enough to survive a huge challenge. Trailing 7-0 in the first quarter, Austin Stockton scored the only offensive points of the game for Aledo on a 1-yard touchdown run. Later in the first quarter, Aledo picked up a safety to take a 9-7 lead, which would hold until halftime. In the second half, Rylan Riney returned an interception 61 yards for a touchdown and Brian Vogel would return a fumble 25 yards to paydirt to give Aledo the victory.
5. Longview (6-2, 4-0, 6) – Defeated Marshall, 50-21.
For awhile, it looked as if Marshall would present a serious challenge to Longview for district honors in 13-4A. The Lobos broke away from a 21 all tie with 29 straight second half points to pick up the victory. With 3:11 remaining in the third quarter and the score still knotted at 21, Jonathan Oliver scored the go-ahead touchdown from 1-yard out. Tyler McCray, who led the Lobos with 88 rushing yards on 17 carries, then added another 1-yard run to give Longview a 35-21 lead after Marshall muffed the ensuing kickoff following Oliver’s touchdown.
6. Ennis (7-0, 4-0, 8) – Defeated Corsicana, 36-28.
Tim Hearne rushed for 129 yards and two touchdowns in a dogfight. D.J. Betik threw for 193 yards and tallied three total touchdowns for Ennis in the victory. Betik hooked up with Kyle Guinyard on a 31-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter and added touchdown runs of 6 and 25 yards for the Lions.
7. Dallas Carter (7-0, 4-0, 7) – Defeated South Oak Cliff, 44-21.
Another typical Carter Cowboys ground performance. The Cowboys rushed for 423 yards on 60 carries, led by Kedrick Wilcott’s 130 yards and two touchdowns. Robert Andrews, Chason White, and Jarvis Phillips added rushing touchdowns for the Cowboys, and Dunston Owens returned a kickoff 83 yards for a touchdown to pace Carter.
8. Port Lavaca Calhoun (5-1, 3-1, 5) – Lost to Gregory-Portland, 28-14.
The Runnin’ Sandcrabs were grounded in a bad way while suffering their first loss of the season. Calhoun rushed for 173 yards – well below its average – in the loss. James Ezzell and Sterling Jones combined for 138 yards on 33 carries, scoring both touchdowns in the loss.
9. Schertz Steele (7-0, 4-0, 9) – Defeated Boerne, 49-28.
Jacob Trevino completed just five passes on 10 attempts in the win, but three of those completions went for touchdowns. Anthony Foster caught two passes for 75 yards, both going for scores in the victory. Four different Steele players scored touchdown runs including Dana Giver, Malcolm Brown, Cory Anderson, and Alfonso Trammell. Giver led Steele with 102 rushing yards on 10 carries.
10. Wolfforth Frenship (7-0, 2-0, 10) – Defeated Hereford, 45-21.
Brian Seicks rushed for 170 yards on 22 carries, including the game-opening touchdown for Frenship. Tyler Lloyd caught two touchdown passes and added a 1-yard touchdown run for the unbeaten Tigers. Dallas Croyel rushed for a touchdown in the third quarter from 13 yards out. Frenship rushed for 363 yards in the victory.
