The Central Coast Section is the last of the 10 California sections to seed its playoffs and the selection of the Open Division bracket has resulted in a shakeup in the California Bowl Game NorCal rankings.
Milpitas, Sacred Heart Prep (Atherton), Palma (Salinas), Los Gatos and Valley Christian (San Jose), teams that have competed in lower divisions in the past, all were selected to compete in the CCS Open Division bracket. That means if one of those teams wins the Open Division, it will only be eligible for the CIF Open or Division I bowl games.
Milpitas and Los Gatos were both previously ranked in the NorCal Division II bowl rankings by the MaxPreps Computer Rankings, while Sacred Heart Prep was ranked in Division III and Valley Christian was ranked in Division I. Palma was unranked but could have possibly been ranked if it competed in a lower section playoff bracket.
Milpitas is the only one of the five teams listed above that moved into the NorCal Division I rankings, coming in at No. 5.
Meanwhile, Archbishop Mitty (San Jose) was not selected for the Open Division and will instead compete in the CCS Division II playoffs. Mitty enters the Division II NorCal Rankings this week at No. 4.
There were two changes among division leaders this week. San Clemente moved ahead of St. Francis (La Canada) in the SoCal Division II rankings while De La Salle (Concord) bumped Folsom out of the top spot in the NorCal Division I rankings.
