PRESENTATION WINS MITTY TOURNAMENTLess than a week after falling to defending California state champion Palo Alto, the
Presentation (San Jose, Calif.) Panthers claimed first place in the Archbishop Mitty Invitational in San Jose.
Palo Alto (Calif.), which lost twice, finished in sixth place after losing to
Santa Barbara (Calif.) in the quarterfinals and then
Dos Pueblos (Goleta, Calif.) 27-25, 21-25, 25-17, 25-21 in the fifth place game.
Presentation got past Santa Barbara 21-25, 25-17, 19-25, 25-16, 16-14 in the semifinals and then edged defending Division II state champion St. Francis 25-23, 25-23, 25-16 in the championship match.
Host
Archbishop Mitty (San Jose, Calif.) also topped Santa Barbara with a 25-18, 25-19, 25-17 win in the third-place game.
Cardinal Gibbons (Raleigh, N.C.), ranked No. 5 in the nation in the
MaxPreps Xcellent 25 rankings, finished in eighth place behind
Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.).
