St. Ignatius (San Francisco, Calif.) extended its winning streak to five games with a 22-7 victory over
St. Francis (Mountain View, Calif.) on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a touchdown pass by
Jack Stinn to
Moore Harris in the first quarter, the Wildcats led 17-7 at the half.
St. Ignatius' standout player in the win was
Michael Capitolo. The senior wide receiver kicked two field goals and one extra point.
Devin Hurtado made a difference for the Lancers. The sophomore ran for one touchdown. His performance brought his touchdown total to one on the year.
St. Francis' lone touchdown came on a 1-yard run by Hurtado in the first quarter.
SI entered the contest giving up 22.0 points per game this year. The San Francisco school held firm on the defensive front, and kept SF well below the 22.6 points it had been averaging per game.
The victory will ease some of the sting of the Wildcats' close 38-35 loss to the Mountain View school last season.
The loss comes after St. Francis defeated Valley Christian 28-27 last week. The loss snapped the Lancers' 3-game winning streak.
In a West Catholic game next week St. Francis (3-3) takes on Bellarmine, and St. Ignatius (5-1) will go up against Archbishop Riordan also in a West Catholic game.
