George DiCamillo wrestled with baggage last year. This winter he cut loose.
Capturing his second straight Division I state title, the
St. Ignatius (Cleveland, Ohio) senior capped an undefeated two-year run and remained the No. 1 ranked wrestler in the country at 120 pounds with a 4-0 decision over Cincinnati LaSalle's Max Byrd on Saturday at the 75th annual OHSAA State Wrestling Tournament inside Ohio State's Schottenstein Center.
DiCamillo, a four-time state placer, finished seventh and third at 103 as a freshman and sophomore and first at 112 as a junior. He was 37-0 as a senior.
"This year feels better because I had fun," DiCamillo said. "Last year I had a monkey on my back since I'd never won a state title and people doubted me. There was pressure. This year was a lot easier. This year I could just concentrate on the match and do what I do best."
What DiCamillo does best is wrestle.
Ranked No. 1 nationally by several services, including the Amateur Wrestling News, DiCamillo made the final by advancing through the first three rounds of the state tournament via pin (0:54), major decision (19-6) and pin (1:36). He's headed to the University of Virginia.
"The rankings are nice because it took a lot of work to get there (No. 1)," DiCamillo said. "But as much as the numbers mean, you still have to go out and wrestle your match whether your No. 1 or dead last."

NO REST FOR THE WICKEDDon't expect
Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) junior Nathan Tomasello to rest on his laurels. In fact don't expect him to rest much at all.
"None," Tomasello answered when asked how much time he was going to take off before training for next year. "I'm going to lift tomorrow."
Saturday Tomasello lifted himself to the top of the podium for the third straight season. The country's No. 1 ranked wrestler at 113, Tomasello moved one step closer to becoming a four-time state champion by beating Lake Catholic (Mentor, Ohio) sophomore Anthony Tutolo 8-5 in the D-II final.
"I wanted to go out and dominate the match and half the time I felt I wasn't doing that," Tomasello said. "That really angered me."
Tomasello is 90-0 the last two years.
