Call it the calm before the storm.
There was little movement in the Top 25 Composite rankings this week as many teams were either finishing the regular season or had a bye in preparation of upcoming playoffs.
Nos. 1 and 2 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) and St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) each had byes before they begin what feels like a collision course in the CIF Southern Section Open Division playoffs. The Trinity league foes have already met once, with the Monarchs coming out with a 38-24 win over the Braves.
Texas wrapped up its regular season with Duncanville, Katy, North Shore (Houston), Allen, Longview and Carroll (Southlake) all ready for the postseason grinds that takes six win-or-go-home victories to earn a state title.
Louisiana's Archbishop Rummel was the lone newcomer to the Composite Top 25, sliding in at No. 25.
Only schools recognized by two or more media outlets are eligible for
inclusion in the composite rankings. Teams were assigned a score of 40
for each media outlet that did not recognize them as part of their Top
25, rewarding teams that received consensus acclaim.
