The Woodlands and Tomball are each ranked among the top five teams in the nation, and neither has lost a game this season. However, they aren't the owners of the nation's longest active baseball win streak.
The Woodlands (Texas) is ranked No. 3 in the
Xcellent 25 National Baseball Rankings with a 17-0 record after Tuesday's 11-1 win over College Park. The 17-game win streak, however, is tied for the eighth-longest active win streak in the nation.
Tomball (Texas), meanwhile, is ranked No. 5 and defeated Spring Woods 15-4 on Tuesday for its 16th-straight victory. That streak ranks No. 10 on the active list.
Three teams, spread out across the country, are tied with the longest win streak at 28 games apiece.
On the West Coast,
Foothill (Palo Cedro, Calif.) is off to an 11-0 start after winning its final 17 games of the 2012 season to capture the Northern Section Division I championship. The Cougars will see their streak put to the test next week when they participate in the inaugural Boras Classic at Elk Grove High School. The tournament features 16 of the top teams in Northern California.

Westminster Christian is also tied for thenational lead with 28 straight wins.

In the Midwest,
Westminster Christian (St. Louis) won its final 26 games of the 2012 season. Led by MaxPreps All-American Tate Matheny, the son of St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Matheny, Westminster Christian won the Division 3 state championship in Missouri. The team is off to a 2-0 start to the 2013 season.
In Virginia,
Monroe (Stanardsville, Va.) completed a magical season in 2012, winning its final 26 games to capture the Class A championship in Virginia. Monroe has only played two games in 2013, but both of them have been 10-run rule routs.
Brentwood (Sandersville, Ga.) comes in at No. 4 on the active win streak list with 25 in a row while
South Stanly (Norwood, N.C.), the North Carolina 1A state champion last year, is No. 5 with 21 straight wins.
Edgewood Academy (Elmore, Ala.) has won 18 straight games, all during the 2013 season, while
Magnolia Heights (Senatobia, Miss.) won its final four games of the 2012 season and the first 14 of 2013 to tie Edgewood Academy with 18 wins at the No. 6 spot.
Genoa Central (Texarkana, Ark.), the state 3A champion in 2012, is tied with The Woodlands for the No. 8 spot with 17 wins in a row.
Just one year ago, the nation saw a pair of teams battle it out for the
longest win streak in national history.
Portsmouth (N.H.) and
Martensdale-St. Mary's (Martensdale, Iowa) went back and forth during the 2011 and
2012 seasons in setting the national record. Portsmouth set the original
record of 76 in 2011, only to have Martensdale-St. Mary's, which plays
its season in the summer, break the record later that year.
In
2012, Portsmouth reset the record at 89 straight wins before finally losing. Martensdale-St. Marys added to its streak, but fell short
of the national mark with 88 in a row.
