The Patriots finished with a flourish in the state tournament last year, winning the championship game over West Fargo by 40 points while also knocking off the No. 1 team from the East, Shanley, in the semifinals. Two of the team's top players return in 5-9 senior forward
Macy Lynch and 5-9 junior forward
Jordyn Jossart. Both earned all-conference honors last year with Jossart averaging 11.7 points per game and Lynch averaging 10.5. Century will have to replace the graduated Hannah Larson, who led the conference in rebounds last season and was third in scoring.
2. Jamestown2013 finish: 19-6
Coach: Andy Skunberg
After losing in the first round of the state tournament, Jamestown bounced back to win their final two games of the season for fifth place. Two of the Blue Jays top players return in 6-1 senior post
Paige Peterson and 5-4 senior guard
Mikayla Orr. An all-conference selection, Peterson is the league's top returning rebounder at 10.5 per game. She also averaged 11 points an outing. Orr, also an all-league pick, led the conference in assists at 4.2 per contest.
3. Bishop Ryan (Minot)2013 finish: 27-0
Coach: Julie Stewart
The Lions went undefeated last season and captured the Class B state championship. Coach Julie Stewart loses just one player from last year's team and returns the top four scorers, including 6-2 junior forward
Hannah Stewart who averaged 21.9 points and 10.5 rebounds per game last year. Also back is junior
Gabbie Bohl, who averaged 14 points per game.
4. Bismarck2013 finish: 16-9
Coach: Dallas Hinderer
Winners of the West Region last year, Bismarck fell to West Fargo in the state playoffs and finished fourth after a loss to Shanley. The Demons had just three seniors on last year's roster and they return all-conference forward
Keisha Englehardt, a 5-11 senior who averaged 12 points and 8 rebounds a game last year.
5. Shanley (Fargo)2013 finish: 21-3
Coach: Tim Jacobson
Shanley was the top team coming out of the East, but it fell to Century in the semifinals and finished third in the state tournament. Shanley returns its top player from last year in
Sarah Jacobson, who led the team in points per game (16.0) as well as steals and assists.
