Like thousands of aspiring broadcasters across the country, Luther King is in the booth Friday night calling high school football games in Tennessee.
Unlike others, however, King is blind.
"Why should it?" King said. "Why should it?"
The 39-year-old King preps for the games with a braille book and recently upgraded his equipment thanks to new friend Ben Sabin and a
GoFundMe campaign.
"He doesn't see the obstacles, he's always looking for a solution," Sabin said in the NewsChannel5 report.
Sabin, an audio store owner, was contacted to help King use a soundboard he purchased and began working on a way to upgrade his equipment to make the setup process easier.
The GoFundMe campaign has raised nearly $2,800 of the $3,800 goal, which will help purchase a new computer as well.
"I am determined to help Luther figure this out and get him the
equipment he needs to do this thing that gets him out of bed in the
morning," Sabin wrote on the GoFundMe page.
King uses the help of a spotter to set the formations and describe the action, which he then relays is to the audience.
"I'm only the soundtrack, the kids on the field are doing the dirty work," King told the news station.
In addition to his play-by-play duties, King is a podcaster and previously provided blog recaps of
Maplewood (Nashville) games.
