Video: Mia McGrath's highlights vs. Lincoln Southwest High School
See the Marian midfielder in action.
It's automatic every Monday and Tuesday during the girls prep soccer season. High school soccer fans from all corners of the state login to their computers hoping the school they are loyal to moved up in the rankings, took over the top spot or made the climb into the rankings.
But what about the national rankings? Oh what a coup that would be, to find your alma mater alongside traditional powers Parkview (Lilburn, GA), Clover (SC) or Charlotte Catholic (Charlotte, NC). Heck, landing a Top 100 ranking would be pretty cool, too.
Well, this week we did that work for you. Scouring through the MaxPreps National Rankings, we unearthed the current national ranking for each member of Nebraska's Top 10 girls soccer teams.
While the Cornhusker State is not represented in the Top 25, top-ranked Omaha Marian did crack the Top 50 at No. 49. Omaha Skutt Catholic, Nebraska's No. 2 club, is now a member of the Top 75 at No. 71 and Omaha Westside improved 161 spots from a year ago to 120th in 2017-18. Millard North and Lincoln Southwest round out the Top 5 at 140th and 158th respectively out of the 2,598 schools that now reside in MaxPreps' national girls soccer rankings database.
Seven Cornhusker State schools made this week's Top 250 nationally and every member of this week's Top 10 is ranked in the nation's Top 500. Of the members of this week's Top 10, Gretna made the largest climb nationally over a year ago, improving 417 spots to 280th. Papillion-LaVista South and Lincoln Southeast improved 320 and 201 spots respectively over a year ago.
We used Tuesday's rankings for this week's Top 10. As you browse through the Top 10, listed on the top line is the name of the school, its won-loss record in parentheses and the school's MaxPreps power ranking. On the second line we listed the number of spots the school improved or dropped nationally compared to last season's final MaxPreps' National Rankings.
