Mike Tyson and Mike Ditka may be the most famous Iron Mikes in America.
The actual Iron Mike, though, might be the one who deserves the attention. At
Trenton Catholic Academy (N.J.), they are the Iron Mikes, and it honors something that all Americans can appreciate.

Any monument that depicts an American soldier is called an Iron Mike, and the mascot logo for Trenton Catholic features a mean-looking character who looks like a tough military man from the World War I era.
But the actual reason for the mascot name doesn't have to do with soldiers at all. It has to do with a Catholic cleric who was responsible for enhancing Catholic education in the Trenton area. Monsignor Michael McCorristin, the Iron Mike the school name references, was instrumental is building new facilities in the area and his name lives on at Trenton Catholic.
The school just completed its 50th anniversary.
The mascot logo looks like a tough drill sergeant, and the mascot name screams toughness. They have a mascot name that no other school in America has, and they honor a man who is a local legend.
Yes, the Iron Mikes of Trenton Catholic Academy are doing it right.
