MaxPreps 2014-15 Oklahoma preseason boys basketball Fab 5, presented by the Army National Guard

1. Mustang
2013-14 finish: 22-7
Head coach: Terry Long

The Broncos made the state tournament for the first time in 18 years last season when they reached the semifinals before falling to Putnam City West. This year, with the return of four starters, Mustang is the favorite to win it all. Juniors Jakolby Long and 6-foot-9 forward Austin Meyer led the team to a 22-7 record last year while senior guard Terrell Williams and forward Geofferey Hightower are also returning starters. Meyer was the conference defensive player of the year while Williams was first team all-conference, Long and Meyer were second team and Hightower was third team.

2. Owasso
2013-14 finish: 21-6
Head coach: Dan Hightower

The Rams feature one of the nation's top players in Shake Milton, a 6-3 guard who was named the Gatorade State Player of the Year as a junior after averaging 28 points, 5.9 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.7 steals per game. He led the Rams to a 21-6 record and a spot in the Class 6A semifinals, where they fell to eventual champion Union (Tulsa).

3. Edmond Santa Fe
2013-14 finish: 17-6
Head coach: Lenny Hatchett

The Wolves were eliminated early from the postseason last year, but a strong group of returning players could make for a deep run in the playoffs in 2015. Edmond Santa Fe has one of the state's top players in 6-3 guard Curran Scott, who earned all-state honors as a junior. Coach Lenny Hatchett also returns two other players who earned all-conference honors in 6-3 senior forward DaRon Mims and 6-5 senior forward DaQuan Jefferies.

4. Union (Tulsa)
2013-14 finish: 27-2
Head coach: Rudy Garcia

It's hard not to pick the Redskins somewhere in the Top 5. Union has won four consecutive regional championships and 16 total since 1997. Union has also won the area title the past four seasons and two state championships in the past three seasons. Coach Rudy Garcia lost a number of seniors from last year's group, including all-state first team selection Shawn Olden and honorable mention selections Jeffery Mead and Carson Meier.

5. Norman North
2013-14 finish: 19-8
Head coach: Bryan Merritt

Norman North is still a relatively young team, but it should have plenty of firepower. Junior guard Marcus Dickinson earned all-conference honors as a sophomore and could be one of the top juniors in the state in 2015. Meanwhile, sophomore Trae Young, a 6-1 guard, is one of the top sophomore players in the state.
