When Jeff Parham gets a text message, his smart phone makes the sound of a train. For the last week, it's been more like a runaway freight train.
"I haven't got much done, but that's OK," he said. "I'm riding it as long as it goes."

Parham is the high school baseball coach of World Series MVP Madison Bumgarner, who didn't just lead the Giants to a championship. "He carried them on his back," Parham said.
Such sentiments might seem over-stated considering Parham coached him at
South Caldwell (Hudson, N.C.). But considering Bumgarner has hit the late-night talk-show circuit and donned the cover of Sports Illustrated, such talk isn't hyperbole in the least. After all, the 6-foot-5 lefty went 2-0 with one save and a 0.43 ERA as the Giants won the best-of-7 series, four games to three.
The 25-year-old threw a record 52.2 innings in what was considered the most dominating single postseason in the history of baseball.
See last week's story on Parham, Bumgarner and MadBum Fever at South CaldwellHe finished it off in Game 7 with five innings of scoreless relief on two day's rest, something legends are made of. It even amazed his old coach, and Parham saw Bumgarner do it all all during a momentous high school career.
Parham said he never left his favorite maroon leather chair once Bumgarner entered in the fifth inning.

"I was just waiting to see when they'd bring him in but when it was the fifth, I thought ‘wow,'" Parham said. "It was just amazing watching him get outs inning after inning. He looked good and strong. Nobody was warming up in the bullpen. Sure enough he made it all the way. It was incredible."
Of course, there was a little drama when Alex Gordon's soft single got past center fielder Gregor Blanco and went to the wall, where it was kicked around, helping Gordon get to third.
"I came out of the chair," Parham said. "I was going crazy. But once they held him at third, I was OK. I've seen Madison in that spot before. He just asked for the ball and I knew the Giants were OK."
When he induced Salvador Perez to foul out, Parham got emotional. "How much more proud of a kid can you get?" he asked rhetorically. "It was such a blessing to coach that young man for four years."
After the emotion, came the freight train. For a week, Parham.
The coach's reaction?
All aboard.
He said he received between 20-25 interview requests from local, regional and national media, including TMZ. He's received texts from exuberant California Giants fans, almost all he didn't know.
"One guy said he wanted to come to North Carolina and kiss the mound Madison pitched on as a youth," Parham said. "Another couple from San Francisco already came out and toured the campus."
The reaction at school over the last week was euphoric, Parham said. The entire student body gathered in the gym and made a "congratulations" video for Bumgarner. They immediately and organically broke into a chant of "MVP, MVP, MVP!" (See video at top).
The school is selling Bumgarner short- and long-sleeve T-shirts at a record rate. The first 831 went out in the first four days.
Second orders are being taken now through Nov. 13. All proceeds goes to the school general fund, with a special portion going to the baseball team.
The handsome black and orange cotton shirts highlight the 2010, 2012 and 2014 World Series and also pays tribute to the 2007 South Caldwell state championship.
