Center Grove (Greenwood, Ind.) came into Saturday's contest ranked No. 22 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings, but was stunned by
Warren Central (Indianapolis, Ind.), 12-7. Warren Central was ranked No. 62 nationally and No. 3 in the Freeman Rankings for Indiana coming into the week.
After taking the lead on a field goal in the first quarter, the Warriors led 9-7 at the half.
Warren Central expanded its lead to five points entering the fourth quarter. WC's lone score in the quarter came on a field goal.
The Trojans came into the game having won three of the past nine games between the two teams.
Center Grove's only touchdown came on a pass from undefined to
Ryan Walker in the second quarter.
The Indianapolis school entered the contest giving up 18.2 points per game this year. The Warriors held firm on the defensive front, and kept Center Grove well below the 40.3 points it had been averaging per game.
The victory avenged Warren Central's close 8-5 loss to CG last season.
The loss comes after Center Grove defeated Southport 56-14 last week.
