Video: Top 10 football Plays of the Week See what had people talking over the weekend and had social media buzzing.
With Nebraska's high school football season winding down, and the playoffs looming, we have decided to take a look at which districts, through their collective toughness, are best preparing their members for the grind of the postseason.
Using the MaxPreps Nebraska Football Rankings, presented by the Army National Guard, we calculated the average power rating for each district, and that calculation is the basis for this week's Top 10.
It does make sense that any district featuring a top-ranked team would have the upper hand at weighing in as a Top 10 district, and that's somewhat the case again this season. Class A's Millard West and Class C2's Oakland-Craig were the only top-ranked 11-Man teams to miss the cut, along with the A-4 and C2-2 Districts that the Wildcats and Knights reside in this fall.
Three of Class C1's top eight football teams have been battling it out for supremacy in the C1-4 district, and to date, second-ranked Wahoo reigns supreme with three opponents remaining on its schedule. Ranked sixth in Class C1 is Columbus Scotus while Bishop Neumann (8th, C1), Columbus Lakeview (13th, C1) and Raymond Central (38th, C1) fill out the rest of the Cornhusker State's Top 11-Man district.
The B-2 District claims three Top 10 teams and sits in the No. 2 spot. To date, third-ranked Waverly leads the way. Defending Class B champion Omaha Skutt Catholic (2nd, B), Norris (8th, B), Plattsmouth (12th, B), Omaha Gross Catholic (17th, B) and Ralston (21st, B) round out the Cornhusker State's second best district. The B-3, A-5 and B-4 districts round out the Top 5 in the Nos. 3-4-5 spots respectively.
All 11-Man classifications except for Class C2 are represented in this week's Top 10. But that does not mean that there are no tough districts in Nebraska's smallest 11-Man class. The C2-4 District featuring David City Aquinas, Centennial, David City, North Bend Central, Shelby-Rising City and Twin River finished just out of the Top 10 at 11th. Combined, the C2-4 has produced a won-loss record of 25-11.
Below, listed on the top line, is the district that is being ranked, its average MaxPreps power rating and the district's collective won-loss record. Listed on the second line and beyond is the MaxPreps classification ranking for each team competing in that district as well as the name of the school and that school's current won-loss record in parenthesis.
