Sand Creek (Colorado Springs, Colo.) football player Gabe Solis has, no doubt, faced his share of challenges on the field, but nothing like he experienced Thursday night.
Shortly after leaving a team dinner at a local restaurant, Solis, 17, was carjacked at gunpoint as he bought gas at a 7-Eleven.
"I really didn't believe it was happening," Solis told the
The Gazette.
Solis, a 6-foot-2 senior linebacker for the Scorpions, was not injured in the incident, and he called police after the two suspects drove away in his green Toyota 4Runner. Solis said after the suspects requested cigarettes and money, one then asked for his car keys while drawing a gun.
"He's like, ‘Well, let me get your car keys," Solis recounted to the newspaper. "And then I looked at him and he had his gun pulled out there."
The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is searching for the two suspects – listed in their late teens or early 20s. The most recent incident comes just months after another carjacking took place across the street, when two people were shot in late July, according to The Gazette.
Sand Creek plays its regular-season finale tonight against Falcon.
