Two-thirds of the
Plant (Tampa, Fla.) senior trio have made their college plans known.
Quarterback
Phillip Ely announced his decision to attend Alabama while
Tony Posada gave a verbal commitment to Michigan today at a press conference held at the school.
Teammate James Wilder, the No. 1 player in the class of 2010, has yet to decide, but is expected to verbally commit Aug. 18.
Ely took over the starter’s role full-time for Plant last season, replacing current Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray. He tossed for 1,860 yards and 20 touchdowns versus three interceptions. He is the No. 5 pro-style quarterback in the nation according to Tom Lemming.
One of the top offensive lineman in Florida, Posada chose the Wolverines over South Florida and Missouri among others.
Wilder will have his pick of schools and wants to play running back in college. Many see him as a linebacker but are willing to accommodate his immense talent. Florida, Florida State and Georgia are among his finalists.
The trio helped lead Plant to a 5A state title last year, but make up almost all of the team’s returning starters. The Panthers are ranked No. 11 in the MaxPreps Preseason Top 25 Early Contenders.
Plant will have a challenging schedule in 2010, highlighted by an out-of-state showdown with defending Texas 5A-II champion Abilene, MaxPreps’ No. 2 team nationally.
