Utah School for the Deaf & Blind is 1-7 against Mount Vernon since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will dust off their jerseys to challenge one another at 4:30 p.m. on January 10th. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Utah School for the Deaf & Blind's recent rough patch got a bit rougher back in November of 2023 after their fourth straight loss dating back to last season. They took a serious blow against Utah Military Academy - Hill Field, falling 103-44. Utah School for the Deaf & Blind was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 47-11.
Meanwhile, Mount Vernon's game back in December of 2023 was all tied up 23-23 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They took a 61-43 bruising from Juneau-Douglas. While losing is never fun, Mount Vernon can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 125th in Utah, while Juneau-Douglas is ranked 24th in Alaska).
Despite their loss, Mount Vernon saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Joao De Oliveira, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Those 16 points set a new season-high mark for him. Andrew McMurdie was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Utah School for the Deaf & Blind's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Mount Vernon, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-8 record this season.
Utah School for the Deaf & Blind might still be hurting after the 56-36 defeat they got from Mount Vernon when the teams last played back in January of 2020. Can Utah School for the Deaf & Blind avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
