The
Pine Bush (N.Y.) football program has close ties to the armed forces.
Not only did the program send football recruits to both West Point and Annapolis in last year's recruiting cycle, but it also runs a similar style of offense.
Pine Bush head coach James Wright found a unique way to honor those who serve our country: by adopting similar camouflage uniforms.
Wright said he found a company in the offseason that could create digital camo uniforms, showcasing the schools colors of navy and gold. Gray is included in the camo in lieu of the school's other color, white, to comply with NFHS uniform standards.
The process of designing the uniforms took several weeks; Wright had to show mockups of the uniforms to league officials for approval.
Players purchased their jerseys, and the team used money it raised from concession stands to fund the pants. Wright briefly considered getting camo wraps for the team's helmets, but ultimately decided against it.
The plan was to wear the uniforms for the whole season, but they only arrived a few weeks ago — just in time for homecoming.
Their debut was well-received.
"We got a lot of compliments about them," Wright said. "The parents love it and the kids love it."
