Bill Broderick of
Salem (Mass.) was the first high school football coach to win 300 games, accomplishing the feat in 1941. He held the moniker as the nation's winningest football coach for nearly 35 years.
Winning 300 games puts a high school football coach in an exclusive club and it's where the MaxPreps list of all-time football coaching wins begins. Compiled by Steven Floyd of Corpus Christi, Texas, the list is the only one of its kind and includes nearly 200 more names than the list compiled by the National Federation of High Schools record book.
Coaches are listed based on the number of total wins and include years coached, total overall record and schools where coached. Some coaches who have been reported with over 300 wins may not be included on the list if their total wins have not been verified by Floyd.
It should also be noted that forfeit wins or losses are not necessarily counted in the overall win total. Win totals are for results that happened on the field.
John McKissick of Summerville is the all-time winningest coach with 620 victories.
