High school football in Iowa kicks off Aug. 27. In preparation for openers around the Hawkeye State, we are sizing up the contenders with a look at the state's top 25 teams across all classifications.
Is West Lyon Iowa's top team? We may get a better feel for that this fall as last year's Class 1A state champion is making the move to 2A. The Wildcats have won three titles since 2010 and have won 10 or more games in eight of the past 10 seasons under head coach Jay Rozeboom.
Western Dubuque is another defending champion to watch. The Bobcats went 13-0 last fall and open 2020 on Aug. 28 at Xavier (Cedar Rapids).
