The 2012-13 Colorado wrestling season ended with some familiar names atop the podium, while Alamosa and Paonia also dominated to earn repeat team championships Saturday at the Pepsi Center.
The list of team champs, in order:
Pomona (Arvada) (5A),
Broomfield (4A),
Alamosa (3A) and
Paonia (2A). Of note, Paonia posted a state record-tying 11 place winners to clinch its second title in a row.
Class 5ASeconds after Emilio Martinez won his 126-pound championship bout in Class 5A, he shook hands, made sure everything was OK at the scoring table, hugged his coaches, then took off for a sprint from the mat and through the hallways of the Pepsi Center.
The selfless, even-keeled
Greeley West senior took a few moments to savor one of the top careers in state history, one that included matching the titles won by older brother Joseph.
