The top-ranked team in the country by MaxPreps had little trouble in its opener as Trinity shut out Lee. Brandon Carter had 111 yards receiving with two touchdowns while Terrence Tusan rushed six times for 67 yards and two scores. Lahi Kautai rushed for 91 yards and passed for 165 in the win.

Herschel Sims had 186 yards rushing and a touchdown to help lift Abilene past Belton. Ronnell Sims scored a pair of rushing touchdowns and Paxton Grayer and Tony Curtis each got into the end zone for the Eagles. Belton received 374 yards passing from quarterback David Ash, who completed 31 of 47 passes for three touchdowns.

Colquitt County (Moultrie, Ga.) - 35
Qyen Griffin ran 25 times for 286 yards and six touchdowns on runs of 8, 5, 75, 15, 76 and 2 yards to lead the Tigers to a big win over Colquitt County. Kendrick Market also scored for South Panola, going in on a 43-yard run and an 82-yard interception return.

Grant quarterback Terry Shine passed for three touchdowns and ran for two more in his varsity debut in lifting the Pacers over the Bulldogs. Shaq Thompson also rushed for 129 yards and had 111 yards receiving while scoring on an 8-yard run and catching a 30-yard touchdown.

Harvey Langi rushed for 223 yards and scored four touchdowns for Bingham in a clash between two of the top teams in Utah. Langi had a 45-yard touchdown run, a 50-yard touchdown run and a long run of 57 yards on the night.

The Cavaliers stretched their win streak to 47 games in a row with the victory over Westlake. Griffin Gilbert, the brother of former Lake Travis quarterback Garrett Gilbert, caught nine passes for 164 yards and a touchdown and also had a two-point conversion. Quarterback Michael Brewer threw for 289 yards and the one score. He also rushed for a touchdown.

In a game that the state of Florida counts as a preseason game and does not count against its overall record, the defending 5A state champion Plant Panthers fell to Manatee 48-10 in a rematch of last year's 5A state championship game. Mike Blakely of Manatee ran for 146 yards and three touchdowns and had a 90-yard scoring run. He also threw a touchdown pass. The Hurricanes limited All-American candidate James Wilder to just 87 yards rushing on 15 carries. Plant's only score came on an 80-yard screen pass from Philip Ely to Antonio Crawford.

No. 16 Warren Central (Indianapolis, Ind.) - 21
Cardale Jones came up with three big plays in the final 53 seconds, including a 31-yard pass on fourth and 17, a 15-yard pass on third and 10 and a 2-yard run with 11.9 seconds remaining to give the Tarblooders the win against Warren Central. Jones threw for 250 yards and completed 20 of 36 passes with two touchdowns. Shane Wynn also had a 90-yard kickoff return for a score for Glenville. Deionte Buckley had a pair of touchdowns for Warren Central.

Northwestern quarterback Justin Worley threw five touchdown passes in a span of five minutes during the third quarter to lift his team from a 20-7 deficit to a 42-20 win over crosstown rival South Pointe. Wroley had an 18-yard TD to Stewart Hunt, a 3-yard touchdown to LaThomas Long and a 24-yard TD pass to Brandon Lewis. He also threw a 4-yard touchdown to Robert Joseph and a 57-yard score to Lewis. Story.
